It’s been hectic here at Fernihough towers, what with doing the MA and keeping
portfolio bits and pieces up to date! But I managed to enter the Penguin competition
this year!! Hooray!
It was a fantastic brief to redesign the whole cover for Grimm’s to celebrate its 200th anniversary.
My final piece was a world away from the sketches I started with but I was really
happy with the end results.
I wanted to create the cover to be more appealing to the Y.A Market, (as well as children and adults of course)
I think they really would appreciate the darkness of Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm’s Tales but perhaps overlook it
due to Fairy tales being ‘too young’ for them.
I also have a spattering of fairies being naughty (two are whispering in the ears of the witch)
and a beautiful but sinister looking witch, the princesses as usual are locked in the tower!
