This was super to try out using felt tip and water.
I was trying to find a way of doing quick images
and seeing what came out. These two
were my favourite images and I just love the colour
that the felt tips bring to the pictures.
It was like being in a school science lesson again, although
I don’t remember fashion being a part of it … unless you
include the blue eyeliner and twilight teaser lip gloss we
wore! Groan! Heinous fashion errors of the past!

This was a fun invite to do.
The people were wonderfully encouraging and great to work with at the charity.
I loved the bright colours and feeling of celebration and hope my attempt
at graphic design didn’t let me or the painting down.
I did worry about not having 30 candles on the cake but there
is only so many one can pop into a small cupcake!

Small but sweet… my monthly lady drinking her cup of
tea, probably listening to the archers as she ices her beautiful cup cakes;
after a heady morning in the garden collecting lavender and sweetpeas.
*bliss*

Ohh Its out today!
I am very excited and may look at it several times today:)
Now to get on with some other work, I am struggling with
candle flames and sweet peas today and there is a slight
niggle at the back of my mind that my new inks maybe
leaving a too shiny residue to scan well … Back to the
old watercolours perhaps?

Oh this came in this week I was very excited to be working for ‘Style’
but had to forget about that so I could actually illustrate with a steady hand.
It will be featured in The Style Magazine on September 11th.
Now I need to get back to worrying about college and my starting my second year
of my M.A in children’s illustration and the forth coming trip to Bologna where
I am supposed to have a super duper portfolio to impress and win publishers over
so noooo pressure there then and I will have to restict my Twitter time! @jofernihough
if you want to say hello not that I will be there… much:)

My super friend Lisa Millard at Cambridge Journal asked if I would like to try
illustrating a 1950’s lady for their article ‘Mrs Souffle’
who creates Pop up Tea Parties, which sound fantastic
and immediately makes me want a cup of tea and a cupcake.
I managed to do this image in three days; I totally struggled with it and my first images were
binned very quickly.
The super team at CJ loved the final image and will be printing it
every month alongside the event. Yay!
